Kobbie Mainoo and Daniel Gore were named Manchester United’s U18 and U21 players of the year on Thursday. The award was presented during the half-time break of Erik Ten Hag and co’s penultimate Premier League game against Chelsea.

Mainoo has been named the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year for the 2022/23 season. The midfielder is 18 years old. He earned his senior first-team debut in January, going up against Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup quarter-final. United had won 3-0.

The teenager recorded two more first 11 appearances. He featured in Man United’s FA Cup team against Reading and then against Leicester City in the Premier League. His side won both the games.

Mainoo scored two goals and had as many assists for United’s U-21 team in Premier League 2. He was born in Stockport.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling. I have been at this club all my life and it’s all been building to tonight. And to have my family here watching me, surrounding me, it is just amazing. I’ve been in training with the lads quite a few times. They all made me feel welcome and all gave me words of advice and encouragement. So I felt at home,” he reflected on his debut.

The likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Danny Welbeck and Marcus Rashford have won the prize in the past.

Daniel Gore was awarded the Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year. He is also 18 years old.

Gore made 26 appearances this season, captaining the U-21 team on several occasions. The attacking midfielder joined the Red Devils from Burnley. He was awarded with his first contract at Old Trafford last summer.
