Aaron Finch, Australia’s skipper in the T20 format is confident of contributing to the team in the upcoming ICC Twenty20 World Cup. Earlier this month, Finch publicly announced his retirement from ODI cricket. He is the record holder for two of the three highest individual scores in T20I, beating his previous record of 156 against England in 2013, he scored 172 against Zimbabwe in July 2018. He also became the first player to reach 900 rating points on the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20I rankings.

Who is Aaron Finch?

Aaron James Finch was born on November 17, 1986, in Colac, Victoria, Australia. He was born to Gary and Sue Finch. Along with his siblings, namely Mat and Jess Finch, he was raised in Victoria. During his younger days, Finch was a wicketkeeper batsman, before transitioning into a top-order batsman. Finch shares a very close bond with his family and often shares pictures with them on his Instagram account. 

 Finch played as a junior wicket-keeper at Colac West Cricket Club. He was called upon to play for the U-19 Australian Cricket Team in the 2006 Under-19 Cricket World Cup held in Sri Lanka.

Aaron Finch climbed his way up to become Australia’s ODI and T20I captain, leading his country to their maiden T20 World Cup triumph in 2021.

He retired from ODI cricket in 2022 after a drop in form with the bat, despite leading Australia to a 2-0 win over New Zealand in his final series. Finch remains an in-demand T20 cricketer, having played for nine IPL franchises. During his career, Finch has scored 19 centuries in international cricket.

Finch was very close to late Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes. Hughes died on November 27, 2014, after being hit on the neck while playing in Sydney and Finch was one of the pallbearers at his funeral on December 3, 2014.

Finch married his partner Amy Griffith on April 7, 2018. The couple has a daughter together. He is a huge supporter of the Australian Football League team Geelong Cats.
