Caudal regression syndrome is a rare birth abnormality, sometimes known as sacral agenesis (or hypoplasia of the sacrum). It is a congenital condition in which the caudal partition of the lower spine does not develop normally throughout foetal life. Approximately one in every 60,000 live births experience it.
Compared to normal development, some newborns have very few anomalies, while others have noticeable ones. Most of them develop into generally average adults who have trouble walking and are incontinent.
