Who is Ahmad ‘Sauce’ Gardner?

Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner is a cornerback who plays for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). The Jets took him as the fourth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Gardner, who was born on August 31, 2000, attended Detroit, Michigan’s Martin Luther King High School. In high school, he was a cornerback and wide receiver. Gardner caught four catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns in the Division 3 State Final. Gardner was selected for the Associated Press’ First-Team All-State defensive back team following the season. He committed to play collegiate football at the University of Cincinnati as a three-star prospect.

As a senior, Ahmad Gardner was chosen for the first team all-state and all Detroit. He helped his team win the state championship with two receiving touchdowns in the championship game. In 2019, he was named to the first team of the American Athletic Conference. He also broke up record eight passes, recorded 31 stops in 14 games, returned two of his three interceptions for touchdowns, and made eight interceptions. In nine games as a sophomore in 2020, Gardner racked up 28 tackles, three interceptions, and six pass breakups, earning second-team Associated Press All-American and American Athletic Conference honours. Gardner was the only true freshman to be named to the All-American Conference first team after the season.

He changed his number from 12 to 1 for 2021 and won the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year award and being named to the first team of the Associated Press All-Americans .During his three-year career, Gardner didn’t allow a single receiving touchdown.

As a sophomore in 2020, Gardner started the season at the top of the depth chart. Gardner announced his intent to enter the 2022 NFL Draft after his junior year.

The New York Jets took Gardner with the fourth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. On May 7, 2022, he agreed to a four-year rookie deal worth $38.7 million, completely guaranteed.
