The Minnesota Vikings possess one of the best offensive talent this season in the NFC North division thanks to players like wide receiver Justin Jefferson and running back Dalvin Cook. So, Alexander Mattison may not be a headliner but is a crucial cog in the offense. In the last season when Cook was injured, Mattison proved his mettle by finishing with 20 carries for 112 rushing yards on October 11, 2020, during Sunday Night Football against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5.

Mattison signed up for the 2019 NFL Draft after the season. He said,” You can only play as long as your body lets you, and at this position, you can’t presume it’ll last forever.” Despite requiring offseason operations on his shoulder and ankle, Mattison didn’t miss a single game during his time in college.

With the 102nd overall pick in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings picked Mattison. In the opening game of the 2019 regular season against the Atlanta Falcons, he made his NFL debut. In the 28-12 triumph, he carried the ball nine times for 49 yards.

The rookie ran 12 times for 58 yards and his first running touchdown of his career in Week 3’s 34-14 victory over the Oakland Raiders (now Las Vegas Raiders). Overall, he had 462 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown at the end of his debut campaign. Due to a game-related injury to Dalvin Cook, Mattison was given the chance to rush for at least 100 yards for the first time as a professional.
