Amar’e Stoudemire, former NBA star was arrested in Miami for domestic violence, after allegedly slapping and punching his teenage daughter. He was arrested early Sunday and later released on a $1,500 bond with a no-contact order issued, according to Miami-Dade County court records.

Stoudemire allegedly struck one of his two teenage daughters during an argument at his Miami residence Saturday night, according to a copy of the police record, reported The Miami Herald. However, the report did not verify which of Stoudemire’s two daughters, ages 17 and 14, was hit.

Who is Amar’e Stoudemire?

Amar’e Stoudemire is an American-Israeli professional basketball coach and former player. He serves as a player development assistant for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). 

He was born on November 16, 1982, in Lake Wales, Florida. His parents, Hazell and Carrie, divorced when he was young. Carrie did agricultural work, picking oranges in Florida and migrating north to upstate New York to pick apples during the fall. Stoudmire was 12 when his father died of a heart attack. He attended six different high schools.

Stoudemire started dating Alexis Welch in 2002, the two were engaged in May 2012 and later married on December 12, 2012. The couple has four children. He files for divorce from Welch in October 2018 but the case was dismissed in July 2019 after he failed to submit the required documents to follow through. 

At the age of 14, he started playing organized basketball. In 2003, he won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award with the Phoenix Suns, who selected him as the ninth overall pick of the 2002 NBA draft. He made six appearances in the NBA All-Star Game. He was named to the All-NBA Team five times, including one first-team selection in 2008.

Stoudmire played for the Suns, the New York Knicks, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Miami Heat retiring from the NBA in 2016. He bagged a bronze medal with the United States national team at the 2004 Olympic Games. His ventures outside basketball include a record label, a clothing brand, acting, and a series of children’s books for Scholastic Press. In addition, he owns a majority share of Hapoel Jerusalem, the team he won a championship with in 2017. He was the 2020 Israeli Basketball Premier League Finals MVP.
