Wide receiver Amari Jefferson chose Alabama over Georgia and Tennessee on Saturday, making him a significant commitment for Alabama’s 2024 recruiting class.

Jefferson is a two-sport athlete from Chattanooga, Tennessee’s Baylor School. He has made it clear that he intends to play football and baseball in college.

Jefferson had previously committed to playing baseball for Tennessee. Jefferson visited all three of his candidates on official business during the summer, and he also had meetings with the baseball coaches at each institution.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Jefferson is a four-star recruit. He was ranked No. 209 overall and No. 16 in his class by the service.

Georgia and Tennessee lost out to the Crimson Tide for Jefferson’s commitment. In June 2021, he made his initial commitment to the Volunteers known.

On Maxpreps, Jefferson is listed as being 185 pounds and 6 feet tall. He recorded 72 receptions for 1,370 yards and 17 touchdowns last season, according to 247Sports.

He is Alabama’s second wide receiver commit for the 2024 class. Jefferson joined fellow four-star prospect Rico Scott, however, Jameer Grimsley, who primarily projects as a defensive back, can also play the position.

With the arrival of Jefferson, the commitment group for the Crimson Tide reached 15. Alabama’s class was ranked No. 14 in the nation on the 247 composite before his commitment.

Jefferson is regarded as a highly promising outfielder on the baseball diamond. His baseball ranking on Perfect Game is a 9/10, which means that he is “Potentially a top-10 round pick and/or the highest level college prospect.” It will be interesting to watch how much of an impact Jefferson has on the baseball program, much like 2023 signee Dylan Lonergan, another highly regarded baseball/football talent.
