Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh took two wickets in his very first over in the India versus South Africa T20 International played on October 2. The first wicket to go was that of Temba Bavuna who was caught by Virat Kohli and the second was that of Rilee Rossouw. The South African side was reduced to 5/2 in the first over chasing 237 runs. South Africa needs 238 runs to win.

Who is Arshdeep Singh?

Professional cricketer Arshdeep Singh represents India at the international level for the Indian Cricket Team and is currently playing for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League. In domestic cricket, he currently plays for Punjab

On September 19, 2018, he made his List A debut for Punjab in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He was selected for India’s squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup before making his List A debut. In July 2022, he made his cricketing debut for India on the world stage. He was included in India’s Asia Cup team in August 2022.

On December 25, 2019, he played for Punjab in the 2019–20 Ranji Trophy, making his first-class debut. He was chosen as one of the five net bowlers for India’s visit to Sri Lanka in June 2021. Singh was included in India’s starting lineup for their final two Twenty20 International (T20I) games of the trip after a positive COVID-19 case in the Indian team. Singh was included in the T20I squad for India’s series against South Africa in May 2022. He was also included in India’s T20I squad for their two-match series against Ireland the following month.

Singh was selected for the India ODI and T20I teams for their tour of England in June 2022. He was once more selected for India’s ODI team in July 2022, but this time for their away series against the West Indies. On July 7, 2022, he played his first T20I for India against England. He picked up seven wickets in five games in a series against the West Indies in 2022 and was named player of the series. 

Arshdeep Singh featured in his debut tournament for India in the 2022 Asia CupUAE. The youngster was a part of the 15-man Indian squad led by skipper Rohit Sharma. He had a phenomenal away T20I series against West Indies, taking seven wickets in five matches, winning the Man of the Series award.

IPL Performance:

He was purchased by the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League in December 2018. On April 16, 2019, he played his first Twenty20 match for Kings XI Punjab in the 2019 Indian Premier League. He ended the game as the team’s second-highest wicket taker. He has been playing for the same franchise since, gets praise for his performance in the 2021 edition.
