William Stephen Belichick, popularly known as Bill Belichick, is the head coach of the New England Patriots of the National Football League. He was named after College football Hall Of Fame coach Bill Edwards. He  was born in Nashville, Tennessee. His father became one of the most important football mentors for his career.

Bill’s father was an assistant football coach at the United States Naval Academy. He learned to play football at a very young age by watching his father and naval staff do their jobs. He attended Wesleyan university in middle town, Connecticut. He played center and tight end there.

In 1975,after graduating, Bill took a job as an assistant to Baltimore Colts Head coach Ted Marchibroda. He was hired as the Head coach of the New England Patriots in 2000. After that, the owner of the team Robert Kraft made him the team’s general manager as well. Belichick coached the Patriots to an 11-5 regular season and earned his 18th straight winning season.

Belichick recently entered his 47th season as NFL coach and is in his 22nd season as head coach of the New England Patriots. He owns the most wins among all the coaches and ranks third with 311 total victories as a head coach. He is the only head coach in NFL history to win six super bowl titles.

Belichick was followed through the entire 2009 season which was aired in the first two episodes of the NFL Network documentary series ‘A Football Life’. The premiere became the most watched documentary in the history of NFL Network and the second most watched broadcast in the Boston Media market. 

Bill is considered responsible for the success of the New England Patriots for more than two decades now. He is known for holding numerous coaching records which made him one of the greatest coaches in NFL history.
