Martinez was chosen by the Green Bay Packers in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft (131st overall). Kyle Murphy, a teammate at Stanford, was also chosen by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round (200th overall). Martinez and the Green Bay Packers agreed to a four-year, $2.72 million contract on May 6, 2016, which also included a $383,393 signing bonus. He faced up against Sam Barrington, Carl Bradford, and Joe Thomas throughout training camp in the battle for an inside linebacker position. Due to the camaraderie and relationship that Martinez and Jake Ryan had built up during off-season activities and open workouts, the two were given the nickname “Jake and Blake.” The name is a parody on the catchphrase “Shake and Bake,” which gained popularity thanks to the movie ‘Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby’.
