Brydon Carse was included in England’s playing 11 for the first ODI against India at the Oval, London on Tuesday. The two sides lock horns in a three-game affair. Rohit Sharma won the toss and put the hosts to bat first.

Carse will pair up with the likes of Craig Overton, David Willey and Reece Topley in England’s four-pacer attack vs India. He will be expected to utilise the hard bounce on the wicket to trouble the visiting batters early on.

Carse, who is 26 years old, is not a household name in English cricket yet. He made his ODI debut vs Pakistan at the Sophia Gardens on July 08, 2021. His last appearance in the format came against Netherlands at VRA Cricket Ground on June 22, 2022.

The pacer, born in South Africa, plays for England due to his ancestral visa. One of his grandparents was from England and he is the current Kolpak player for Durham.

Brydon Carse, in a short five-match ODI career, already has a fifer against his name. He has dismissed nine batters so far and bowls at an average of 24.56. He has an economy rate of 5.53.

Carse made his first-class debut against Durham MCCU. An injury prone right-arm pacer, he likes to see the ball skid rather bounce.

In his first season with Durham in 2016, the 26-year-old sustained an injury midway. He had taken 17 wickets in eight games till then. In the next two years, the pacer played only three games.

When asked, last month, about being an enforcer in the England set-up, he said, “That’s something I am striving to be like. (Plunkett) had a very good England career and if I can fulfil that role going forward it’s a big positive. I am just trying to keep it as simple as possible. I want to make an impact in the game. That might not necessarily be taking wickets but creating opportunities for the other end.”
