Australian golfer Cam Davis recently edged Troy Merritt with a par at the fifth playoff hole Sunday to win his first US PGA Tour title at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit, Michigan. 

The 26-year-old had eagled the par-five 17th and birdied 18 in regulation to thrust himself into a playoff with Merritt and Joaquin Niemann, all three tied after 72 holes on 18-under-par 270.

Born in Sydney on February 21, 1995, started off his golfing career with a successful stint at the amateur level. His first victory came in 2015 when he won the Australian Amateur. 

Soon after he was a runner-up in the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship.

In 2016, he was part of the Australian team that won the Eisenhower Trophy in Mexico and he was also the individual winner at the tournament.

In the individual event, Davis finished 2 strokes ahead of fellow Australian Curtis Luck to grab the trophy.

Following his victory in Mexico, he soon turned professional at the end of that year. In his first professional event in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, he finished tied for 15th place.

After finishing fourth in the Qualifying school, the official qualification tournament, Davis qualified for the 2017 PGA Tour Canada. 

The 6 ft 4-inch golfer was tied for 14th in his first PGA event, the Freedom 55 Financial Open, but had a disappointing season, finishing 76th on the tour’s rankings and losing his card.

In November he won the Emirates Australian Open, his first professional win, and automatically qualified for the 2018 Open Championship.

Later Davis won the Nashville Golf Open by one stroke in 2018.

Currently, he is ranked 134 according to the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and has a scoring average of 70.806.
