Chad C. Brown, an American Thoroughbred horse racing trainer, trained Early Voting, the winner of the 147th Preakness Stakes race.

Renowned for his experience and skills with turf horses, fillies and mares, Brown was born on December 18, 1978.

Big Blue Kitten, Lady Eli, Stacelita, Flintshire, and Horse of the Year Bricks and Mortar are some of Chad’s 10 Eclipse Award winners.

Brown spent his early life in the town of Mechanicville,

a small town in upstate New York.

During his time there he developed an early interest in horses during family trips to the nearby Saratoga race track. Brown worked with Standardbreds at Saratoga Raceway during his high school years.

He went to Cornell University to pursue higher education and studied animal science.

In 2002, Brown joined Robert Frankel (one of the most accomplished and respected horse trainers in history) as an assistant. At the 2007 Breeder’s Cup, Brown stepped into Frankel’s shoes and steered Ginger Punch to triumph.

The budding trainer raced for the first time at Saratoga Race Course in 2008, and his first horse, Star Player, won the first race on the first day.

He also won the Eclipse Award for champion turf female winner Stacelita in 2011 after training the Beverly D. and Flower Bowl Invitational.

In 2012, Brown also coached Zagora, a multiple Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf winner. Brown was ranked third among North American trainers by earnings in 2013, and in 2014, following three major Breeders Cup race victories and numerous additional victories, he was a finalist for the Eclipse Award for top trainer, which he won in 2016, 2017, and 2019.

In the 2017 Preakness Stakes, Brown won his first Triple Crown race.

Brown’s stable set a North American record for earnings in 2019 with $31,112,144. 

Terril Brown is Chad Brown’s wife. According to Talks Today, she is the granddaughter of retired coach Bill “Red” Terrill. Avi Brown and Andi Brown are their two daughters.
