Chauncey Gardner-Johnson has been traded by the New Orleans Saints to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Saints will be given a fifth-round pick for 2023, a sixth-round selection for 2024, as well as a seventh-round choice in 2025. The Saints made the decision to go for the trade after they could not agree with Gardner-Johnson, 24, on a long-term contract. Details of the  Gardner-Johnson was with the Saints from 2019 to 2022, and will face the outfit with Eagles on week 17 of the 2022 National Football League (NFL) season.

Who is Chauncey Gardner-Johnson?

Born in Florida on December 20, 1997, Chauncey Gardner-Johnson played for the University of Florida during his college days. He was later picked up by the Saints in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Gardner-Johnson’s career-first interception took place at the 2019 Thanksgiving Day in a match against the Atlanta Falcons. The Saints ended up winning the match via a scoreline of 26-18.

The first-ever career sack of Gardner-Johnson’s career came against San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Nick Mullens in Week 10 of the 2020 season. In the same season, Gardner-Johnson was struck during practice by his teammate, Michael Thomas, who was subsequently suspended for his conduct.

A scuffle ensued between players of Saints and Chicago Bears on November 1, 2020 after Javon Wims, the Bears’ wide receiver, struck Gardner-Johnson with a sucker punch. Wins was suspended for two games by the NFL while Gardner-Johnson was fined $5,128.

When Gardner-Johnson played for Florida, he used the name Chauncey Gardner Jr. The safety later decided to change his last name to honour his stepfather, Brian Johnson, who had raised him since he was a child.

Gardner-Johnson owns a gaming organization called  2x Global. The organization announced on May 16, 2022 that it has partnered with Turtle Beach and ROCCAT.
