One of the best high school basketball prospects, Cooper Flagg, on Friday announced that he had moved up to the high school class of 2024.

Who is Cooper Flagg?

Flagg, a 6-foot-8 forward from Newport, Maine, was a top-three recruit in the 2025 class and is currently competing with guards Dylan Harper and Tre Johnson for the top place in the 2024 class.

When Flagg dominated the 16-under competition in May on the Nike EYBL tour, rumours about his reclassification began to circulate around the AAU. Since he entered the scene last summer, Flagg, a player for Maine United, has been on the radar of NBA scouts. In April, he became the first player to score 50 or more points in an EYBL game.

During Nike’s Peach Jam, Flagg finished up his final AAU basketball season with a strong performance, averaging 25.4 points, 13 rebounds, 6.8 blocks, and 5.7 assists per game. He attended Stephen Curry’s SC Select camp, Jayson Tatum’s Jordan Brand camp, and is currently in Oregon for the Nike Skills Academy. He was voted the MVP of the NBPA Top 100 Camp.

Flagg recently paid Duke a visit; the Blue Devils are considered the favourites to sign the five-star recruit. UConn, Kansas, Michigan, Texas, UCLA, Villanova, and West Virginia are some of the other participating programmes.

Ace Flagg, the twin brother of Flagg, had a fantastic summer and his recruiting has increased as a result of Maine United’s success at Peach Jam, where he averaged 15 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.4 assists as they advanced to the playoffs.

“It’s great playing together,” Ace Flagg told Yahoo Sports. “We have a good connection on the court, obviously, so it’s easy to play together and I always know where he wants the ball and vice versa. We grew up competing against one another and it’s just pushed us both to be better players.”

Scouts have already given Cooper top priority over the past two years, making him the early favourite to be selected with the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draught. With a birthday on December 21, he will be eligible for the NBA Draught at age 16 and won’t need to play two years of college basketball. Regardless of class, Flagg is the best rim protector in high school basketball. He also has a natural feel for the game and this summer, he improved his 3-point shooting.

Asa Newell, Liam McNeeley, Derik Queen, Rob Wright III, a Baylor recruit, Curtis Givens III, and other elite high school athletes from the 2024 high school class will play alongside Flagg during his senior season on a powerhouse Montverde Academy squad.
