Dennis Williams will
be a new head coach on Canada’s bench at the 2023 World Juniors. The Everett
Silvertips head coach will lead the way for the U20 junior team, Hockey Canada.
He will replace Dave Cameron.
The 43-year-old has coaching experience with Canada’s World Junior team. Since he took over as the
Silvertips’ head coach in 2017-18, no coach has won as many games as Williams
has in the Western Hockey League (WHL).
Who is Dennis Williams?
Dennis Williams was
born on August 14, 1979, in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. Williams played for his
hometown team, the Stratford Cullitons from 1994 to 1997. After three full
seasons with Stratford, he entered college hockey, playing for Bowling Green
State University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). He
played for Bowling Green from 1997-2001.

Williams also played
senior hockey for Odessa Jackalopes and Cambridge Hornets till 2002. He
returned to Bowling Green as a graduate assistant in the 2002-03 season. In
the next season, he was an assistant at Utica College.
His first head
coaching job was at Neumann College from 2004 to 2007. He joined North American
Hockey League’s Amarillo Bulls in 2010 as head coach. In 2014, Williams coached
Bloomington Thunder of the USHL.

Since 2017, he is
serving as the head coach of Everett Silvertips after it fired Kevin
Constantine. Williams was promoted to GM and coach ahead of the 2020-21 season.
Williams made his
first appearance with Canada’s national programs during the 2018-19 season when
he was serving as the head coach for Canada Black at the U17 World Hockey
Challenge. In the coming year, he was an assistant with Canada”s U18 team at
the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

He was not with any of
the teams during the 2020-21 season but was named an assistant for Cameron’s
staff on the U20 team for the 2022 World Juniors.
