Dilanka Isuru Kumara, born April 21, 1996, is a Sri Lankan weightlifter who represented his country at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. He was also part of the 2019 World Weightlifting Championships, as well as the 2021 Asian Championships.

The 26-year-old studied at Gettumana Maha Vidyalaya, Kurunegala from Grade One to Eleven and joined the John Kothalawala National School to complete his higher studies. After leaving school he joined the Sri Lanka Army in 2016.

Kumara started weightlifting under the coaching of Rukshan Gunathillake, a talented Weightlifter, in the year 2010. He initially participated at the Junior National Weightlifting Championship from 2011 to 2016 under 50kg. weight class and 55kg. weight class without much success. He proved his class at the National Weightlifting Championship when he won his weight class of 55kg. continuously from the year 2016 to 2019.

In 2013, he toured Malaysia for the Youth Commonwealth Games and was placed fourth in 50kg weight class and in 2016 again he toured the same country for the Youth Commonwealth Championship and won the 55kg weight class.

In 2017, he toured Japan for the Junior Asian Championship held in Tokyo where he was placed seventh. He also secured the Champion Trophy at the National Sports Festival in the year 2018. 

In 2019, at the Asian Weightlifting Championship held in China, he was placed third.

In 2020, he established three National Records in snatch (111kg) Clean and Jerk (140kg) and a full total of 251kg at the Weightlifting trials.

The 26-year-old had bagged two medals at the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2021 held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

During this year’s CWG games, Kumara lifted 120 kg in his first attempt of Clean and Jerk and 105 in Snatch with a total weight of 225 Kg, securing a Bronze medal.
