The Indian men’s fours team won silver medal in the lawn bowls competition at the Commonwealth Games. They lost to Northern Ireland.

The final score was 18-5 in favour of Northern Ireland. The team was led by Sunil Bahadur, Navneet Singh, Chandan Kumar Singh, and Dinesh Kumar. Northern Ireland last took home a gold medal in lawn bowls at the 1998 Commonwealth Games.

With their team narrowly defeating the tournament’s hosts, England, 13-12, in the semifinal, India was assured at least a silver medal. The women’s fours final on Tuesday saw Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia, and Rupa Rani Tirkey lead India to a historic victory over South Africa.

Who is Dinesh Kumar?

Dinesh Kumar is a lawn bowler from India who competes in the triplets and fours categories of lawn bowl at international competitions. Singh was born on June 16, 1977 in RanchiJharkhand, India. 

Singh was chosen to compete in the Australia World Outdoor Bowls Championship in 2020. At the 2019 Asia Pacific Bowls Championships in Gold Coast, Queensland, Kumar took home a bronze medal in the triples event. Kumar has competed for India at three Commonwealth Games, competing in the triples at the 2010 Games, the pairs and the fours at the 2014 Games, and the triples and the fours at the 2018 Games. The team won their section in the 2014 men’s fours but lost to Australia in the bronze medal play-off.

 At the 2022, Commonwealth Games, he competed in the fours event and made it to the final as a member of the Indian team. They won the silver medal. Dinesh Kumar had also participated in the pairs category of lawn bowls in the Games. His other partner was none other than Sunil Bahadur. They topped the sectional play but lost in the quarterfinals.
