Diontae Johnson is a wide receiver who currently plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL. On August 4, 2022, Johnson signed a two-year contract extension worth $36.71 million with the Steelers that included $27 million guaranteed.

Who is Diontae Johnson?

Diontae Johnson was born on July 5th, 1996 in Ruskin, Florida. He did his high schooling at Earl J. Lennard High School, from where he moved to the University of Toledo to play his collegiate football for the Toledo Rockets between 2015 and 18. His sophomore year was the most fruitful year of his college career—he had 74 catches for 1,278 yards and 13 touchdowns in 14 games played.

At the end of his 3rd year with the Toledo Rockets, Johnson declared for the 2019 NFL Draft, and he was picked by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 3rd round as the 66th overall pick.

He made his professional and NFL debut against the New England Patriots in the 1st Week of the 2019 campaign, making 3 catches in a 33-3 drubbing. Two game-weeks later, Johnson made his first career touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers in a 24-20 loss. On January 3, 2020, Johnson was named to the NFL All-Pro Second Team as a punt return specialist. He finished his debut season having made 59 receptions for 680 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns in 16 games, of which 12 were starts.

The following season, in 2020, he made his first playoff appearance as the Steelers faced off against Cleveland Browns in the Wild Card Round- a 48-37 loss. He finished the year with 88 receptions for 923 yards and having made 7 receiving touchdowns in the 15 games he played, of which 13 were starts.

In 2021, Johnson was named to his first Pro Bowl and made 107 receptions for 1,161yards, and eight touchdowns in 16 games. That season he went for the 100-yard mark in three games. 

His performances earned him his 2-year $36.7 million contract extension that will see him bank a guaranteed $27 million.
