Frank Gore, the San Francisco 49ers’ all-time leading rusher, was a familiar sight at practice on Thursday and Friday, but he wasn’t simply passing through.
Gore has formally signed on with the NFL team where he first gained recognition as a player, the San Francisco 49ers, joining the front office in the “football advisor category.” He shared a photo of the contract signing on Instagram.

Gore has been a part of the team since the spring, gaining experience in the human resources department. In his new position, Gore will work together on player evaluation alongside General Manager John Lynch, assistant General Manager Adam Peters, and their staff.
Gore has been planning this move for a few months. Lynch claimed that Gore attended pre-draft meetings just before the NFL draft in April and took notes on how the procedure works.

“He’ll go out on the road with some of our road scouts to make school calls,” Lynch said Saturday in a statement. “He is a smart football mind, and we want to tap into it and he wants to learn from us, so it’s a good thing for everyone involved.”
Gore was first picked by the 49ers in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft. In his subsequent 10 seasons with the organization, he amassed 11,073 running yards, the most in the team’s history. He also made five Pro Bowls and was named to the NFL’s All-Decade team for the 2010s. He later played for the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, and Miami Dolphins before agreeing to a one-day contract with the Niners to retire on June 2, 2022.
