Guillermo Ochoa stood as a wall in the Mexican goal and denied Robert Lewandowski and glorious opportunity to score in Poland’s match against Mexico in the Group C of the FIFA World Cup on Tuesday. The match ended in a goalless draw, but if not for Ochoa, Poland would have won it by a goal, leading to a saddening first match defeat for the football-crazy Mexico.
Mexico are currently third in Group C having split the points with Poland. Saudi Arabia sits at the top of the group, while Argentina are at the bottom after their shocking loss earlier on Tuesday.
Who is Guillermo Ochoa?
Guillermo Ochoa is a Mexican footballer who was born on July 13, 1985, in Guadalajara, Mexico. At 37 years of age, Ochoa is one of the oldest players in the FIFA World Cup 2022. He is commonly referred to by his nickname Memo.
In 2004, Ochoa made his senior-level professional debut for Club America against Monterrey in a Mexican league game. He played more than 200 games for America and earned his first league championship in 2005. From 2005 until 2011, he was the club’s first-choice keeper.
Ochoa has played for Mexico since 2005, after making his debut at the age of 20 in a friendly match against Hungary. He has been a part of the Mexico squad for the FIFA World Cups in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022.

Ochoa started dating Dulce Mara, a singer-songwriter and actress from Mexico, in 2005 but they separated a year later. Next, Ochoa started dating model Karla Mora from Mexico after relocating to France to play in Ligue 1. In Corsica, on February 8, 2013, Mora gave birth to a girl named Lucciana.
On April 1, 2015, the couple gave birth to their second child, a son, one day after Ochoa’s teammate Andrés Guardado’s kid was born. On July 8, 2017, they got married in Ibiza, Spain. In May 2019, the couple’s second daughter was born.
