Harrison Butker is an American football kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL). Born on July 14, 1995, he played college football at Georgia Tech and was drafted  by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Butker was a Georgia Tech player from 2013 to 2016. Not only was he the school’s all-time leading scorer but he also captained the team during his final year. Throughout his undergraduate career, he made 43 of 60 field goal tries and 208 of 210 extra point attempts.

Butker was chosen by the Carolina Panthers with the 233rd overall pick in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Butker and the Panthers agreed to a four-year, $2.48 million contract on May 5, 2017, which also included a $83,112 signing bonus. On September 13, 2017, he was released in favour of seasoned player Graham Gano, and the following day, he was added to the practise squad.

Butker was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs on September 26, 2017, off the Panthers’ practise squad. The rookie kicked the winning field goal in his first game against the Washington Commanders (then Redskins) on October 2, 2017. He set two NFL records in his first month in the league: the most field goals for a rookie kicker in a month and the only man to hit five field goals in multiple games during his rookie season. In total, he was successful with 38 of 42 field goal attempts and all 28 extra point attempts throughout the 2017 season.

In the 2018 season, he made 24 of 27 field goal attempts and 65 of 69 extra point attempts, scoring a career-high six extra points in Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The kicker signed his exclusive rights free agent offer with the Chiefs on April 15, 2019. He received a $645k contract for a year as a result of the tender. He agreed to a $20.3 million, five-year deal on June 13, 2019. 

Butker converted all four extra point attempts and his lone field goal attempt, a 31-yarder in the second quarter, in the Chiefs’ 31-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV.

In total, the kicker converted 25 of 27 field goal tries and 48 of 54 extra point attempts during the 2020 season. Butker scored all nine of the Chiefs’ points in Super Bowl LV‘s defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 27-year-old played in 16 games during the 2021 season, making 47 of 49 extra point attempts and 25 of 28 field goal tries.
