The FIFA World Cup 2022 started
on November 20 and will have its finals on December 18 this year. The
tournament is being held in Qatar, marking the second FIFA ever to be held in Asia.

Mexico’s first match
of the tournament was on November 22, against Poland at Stadium 974 in Doha,
Qatar. The match was a draw. Henry Martin was the leading striker for the Mexico squad.

Who is
Henry Martin?

Henry Martin was born
on November 18, 1992 in Yucatan, Mexico to Daniel Martin and Guadalupe Rosario Mex
Lopez.  His older brother, Freddy Jesus
Martin is a former Mexican football player.

At the age of 15, Martin
played one season in the third division with the Itzaes de Yucatan FC during
the 2008 Clausura tournament. His professional career began in 2013 in his hometown club of Merida, making his debut in July of that year, against Delfines del
Carmen. In 2014, he was transferred to Tijuana for the Apertura tournament. He
made his Liga MX debut in July 2014, one year after his career debut.

In August 2015,
Martin replaced an injured Oribe Peralta after he was called by interim head
coach Ricardo Ferreti. He marked his first match for Mexico in a friendly match
against Trinidad and Tobago. In the 59th minute of the match, he was subbed out for Raul Jiminez. He scored his first-ever goal for Mexico in 2018,
against Costa Rica.

In 2017, Martin
joined Club America, a professional football club based in Mexico, where he
finished as the tournament’s top scorer, scoring over 5 goals.

Martin won a bronze
medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo as one of the three over-age
reinforcements. In October 2022, he was named as one of the preliminary 31-man
squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and was included in the final 26-man roster for
the Mexican team. The 2022 World Cup marks his first-ever World Cup tournament.
