As Mexico plays Poland in the Group C match in the FIFA World Cup 2022 on Tuesday at Stadium 974, Mexican fans will have a new man to cheer for. While Javier Hernandez and Raul Jiminez are already big footballing stars in Mexico, the current form of Napoli’s Hirving Lozano would tempt many a Mexicans fan to expect fireworks from his feet.

Along with Hernandez and Jiminez, he will also be a player to watch out for in the FIFA World Cup. Can he help Mexico get past the Round of 16 for the first time in 36 years? Only time will tell.

Who is Hirving Lozano?

Hirving Lozano was born on July 30, 1995, in Mexico City, the capital of Mexico. He currently plays as a forward for the Serie A club SSC Napoli. He is also referred to by his nickname Chucky.

Lozano started his football career at the youth academy of C.F. Pachuca and made his Liga MX debut on February 2014 against Club America. He scored five minutes after he was substituted into the match, helping his team win 1-0.

He played for the Pachuca for three years and later moved to the Netherlands joining PSV in 2017.

He ended the 2017-18 season as PSV’s highest goalscorer with 17 goals. That year, PSV won the Eredivisie defeating Ajax 3-0 in a decisive match. He continued with PSV for one more season and then moved to the Serie A, joining his current club Napoli in 2019 for a then-record fee of $45.5 million. It was the largest fee PSV received for a transfer ever.

His most memorable performance came during Napoli’s Coppa Italia victory over Juventus in his first season with the club. Napoli defeated Juventus 4-2 on penalties after a goalless draw, making him the first Mexican to win a cup with an Italian club. In the next season, he was the highest goalscorer for Napoli, netting 11 in 32 appearances.
