Hunter Renfrow is an American football wide receiver who currently plays for the Las Vegas Raiders. Recently, on June 10, 2022, Renfrow signed a 2-year contract extension worth $32 million with the Raiders.

Who is Hunter Renfrow?

James Hunter Renfrow was born on 21 December 1995 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He did his high schooling at Socastee High School there and was ranked as a two-star football recruit, playing as a quarterback in those days. 

He chose to continue his education and development as a sportsman close to home at Clemson University in South Carolina from 2014-2018. He joined the Clemson Tigers as a ‘walk-on’- athletes who have not been recruited or given an athletic scholarship and are often the weakest members of the squad. After redshirting his true freshman year, he bulked up and played 13 games for the Clemson Tigers as a redshirt freshman, in 2015, making 10 starts with a record of 492 yards and five touchdowns that year.

In 2018, he was awarded the Burlsworth Trophy which is given to the best college player who started their career as a ‘walk-on’.

He was drafted in the 5th round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders (who are now called the Las Vegas Raiders) as the 149th overall pick and was the only offensive player drafted in by the Raiders that year. 

He made his professional and NFL debut in Week 1 of the 2019 season against the Denver Broncos recording 2 catches for 13 yards in a 24-16 victory. He suffered a rib injury in Week 12 against the New York Jets, which was later found to be a broken rib and punctured lung. He finished his rookie season having made 49 receptions for 605 receiving yards, and 4 receiving touchdowns.

 In 2021, Renfrow finished the season with career-high figures making 103 receptions for 1038 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns. He also made his playoff debut in the Wild Card Round that season, although the Raiders had to bow out after a 26-19 loss in which Renfrow caught 8 passes for 58 yards.

On June 10th, 2022, Renfrow was rewarded with a 2-year contract extension worth $32 million.
