J.K. Dobbins is a running back who plays for the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL. His most recent season, in 2021, was a write-off on account of a damaging torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury which he suffered on August 28, 2021, in the final preseason game against the Washington Football Team.

Who is J.K. Dobbins?

J’Kaylin “J.K.” Dobbins was born on December 17, 1998, in Houston, Texas. He did his high schooling at La Grange High School, in La Grange Texas coming out of high school as a highly rated 4-star prospect in spite of an injury-ravaged senior year. He eventually committed to Ohio State to play his college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes Football Team from 2017-19. 

In his freshman year at Ohio State, he became only the fourth freshman in the history of the college to cross the 1000-yard rushing mark in a season, before setting the record for the most rushing yards by a freshman when he hit 1403 yards during the 24-7 Cotton Bowl win against the USC Trojans.

In his Junior year, Dobbins gained 100 yards or more in 10 games through the season, rushing more than 2,000 yards in a prolific campaign—making him the only Buckeye in history to do so. This earned him a place in the First Team All-Big Ten and the First Team All-American as an All-Purpose player by the Football Writers Association of America. 

He declared for the 2020 NFL Draft and became the 2nd round 55th overall pick when the Baltimore Ravens snapped him up on a 4-year $5.73 million contract, including a $1.7 million signing bonus and $2.59 million guaranteed.

He made his professional and NFL debut in the first week of the 2020 season against the Cleveland Browns and scored two rushing touchdowns in a 38-6 win. He had his first 100-yard rushing game in Week 8 that season against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played 15 games in his debut campaign, of which he started 1 game. 

The following season, 2021, was over for Dobbins even before it had begun; he suffered a torn ACL in a preseason game that ruled him out for the entire campaign. He’ll be looking to bounce back in the 2022 season after a year away from the action.
