Joey Gallo has been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. The trade, an exchange, involves minor league right-hander Clayton Beeter going to the New York Yankees.

Gallo, who was a part of the Yankees since 2021, hit .159 with 25 homers, 46 RBIs and 194 strikeouts in 421 at-bats. He made his MLB debut with the Texas Rangers in 2015. 

The 28-year-old was booed repeatedly by fans at Yankee Stadium and lost playing time in recent weeks to Matt Carpenter and became superfluous when New York acquired Andrew Benintendi from Kansas City last week.

A two-time All-Star, Gallo has a $10,275,000 salary and is owed $3,613,187 for the remainder of the season. He is eligible for free agency after the World Series.

Beeter, 23, was 0-3 with a 5.75 ERA this season at Double-A Tulsa, striking out 88 and walking 35 in 51 2/3 innings. He was drafted by the Dodgers with the 66th pick in the 2020 amateur draft and signed for a $1,196,500 bonus.

Who is Joey Gallo? 

Gallo, who was brought up in Las Vegas, Nevada, was selected by the Rangers in the first round of the 2012 MLB draft. However, his debut came in 2015. The 28-year-old was selected to the 2019 and 2021 MLB All-Star Games and won the Gold Glove Award in 2020 and 2021.

Gallo attended Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. He was in the Nevada Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year and a High School All-American by MaxPreps. The former New York Yankees player hit a Nevada high school record 67 career home runs in 446 at bat. He also had a .509 batting average with 21 home runs and 80 runs batted in (RBIs) in 114 at bats.

Joey Gallo was traded to the Yankees on July 29, 2021 alongwith Josh Smith, Glenn Otto, Trevor Hauver and Ezequiel Durán. 

In 2021, he batted .199/.351/.458 with 38 home runs and 77 RBIs. He had the highest strikeout percentage in the major leagues.
