Joey Porter Jr, son of former linebacker Joey Porter, on Wednesday announced that he is skipping Penn State’s bowl game and has declared for the 2023 NFL draft. 

“First and foremost, I sincerely appreciate my teammates, coaches, family and every member of the Penn Staté community who have made the last four years so memorable. My time at Penn State has been nothing short of a blessing,” he wrote in a social media post.

The cornerback further thanked his family for unconditional love and support. 

“I wouldn’t be the man I am today without the love and guidance from my Mom. To my Dad, thank you for introducing me to the game I love and for always pushing me to be my best. To my coaches and teammates, I will cherish the memories we have made and the lessons we have learned together. I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by men who exemplify what it means to be hard-working leaders and for that I am grateful,” he said, adding that NFL 2023 is the next chapter in his life.

Who is Joey Porter Jr?

Born in Bakersfield, California, Joey Porter Jr is the son of former Pittsburgh Steelers player Joey Porter. He attender the Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School in Cranberry Township, Butler County. Then, he transferred to North Allegheny Senior High School in Wexford. 

Porter Jr played  played cornerback and wide receiver in high school.

In his first year playing at Penn State, Porter participated in four games and had three tackles. In 2020, he started all eight matches. The cornerback had 33 tackles and a sack. 

In 2021, he played 13 games and had 50 tackles and one interception.

Joey Porter and his wife Christy have two boys; Joey and Jacob, and two girls; Jasmine and Jayla.
