John Peers and Storm Sanders won the US Open 2022 in the mixed doubles category, defeating Kirsten Flipkens and Édouard Roger-Vasselin in the finals, 4-6, 6-4, 10-7. 

Sanders and Peers are Australia‘s first Grand Slam mixed doubles champions since Jarmila Wolfe and Matt Ebden at the 2013 Australian Open. They are also the first Australian duo to win the US Open mixed doubles title in 21 years. He also won the 2017 Australian Open in the doubles category.

Who is John Peers?

John Peers is an Australian professional tennis player. He was born on July 25, 1988 in Melbourne, Australia. He started playing professional tennis in 2013.  He participated in his first grand slam tournament at the Australian Open in the same year with fellow countryman, John Patrick Smith. 

He participated in his first French Open as a doubles player with Smith but lost in the second round. Peers then competed in the 2014 ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament alongside Austrian Julian Knowle. The pair advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to Julien Benneteau and Édouard Roger-Vasselin. 

Jamie Murray and Peers began the 2015 season as doubles partners at Brisbane International, where they defeated top seeds Rojer/Tecau in the first round before going on to win the title by defeating Dolgopolov/Nishikori.

Murray/Peers reached the Wimbledon Championships final in July that year, but were defeated in straight sets by Rojer/Tecău who avenged their loss. Peers began 2016 with a new partner, Henri Kontinen, and defended his title at the Brisbane International. The number two seeded pair advanced to the finals by defeating the number four seeded pair Inglot/Lindstedt, and went on to win the title by defeating Peers’ compatriots Duckworth/Guccione.

In 2017, Peers won his first grandslam title after he alongside his partner defeated the Byran brothers, Bob and Mike. 

Significant Wins: –

Apart from his maiden victory in the US Open, John Peers has also won two ATP World Tour Finals in his career. These wins came in consecutive years, 2016 and 2017. Alongside this, he is also a four-time winner of the Master 1000 finals. He won the 2016 Paris Masters, 2017 Shanghai masters, 2018 Canadian Open and the Indian Wells Masters in 2021.
