Lavonte David is an American football linebacker who plays in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was drafted in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers in the second round, as the 58th overall pick. 

David was born in Miami Florida on 23rd January 1990 and did his high schooling at Miami Northwestern High School. All though not ranked as a particularly high prospect, he nevertheless made waves in his college career, where he played first for Fort Scott Community College and then for the Nebraska Cornhuskers finishing his career at Nebraska with 285 tackles- the 4th highest in school history and the highest by a two-year player.

David was ranked as the 3rd best linebacker going into the 2012 NFL Draft, and the Buccaneers signed him to a 4-year $3.47 million rookie contract that included $1.36 million guaranteed, and a $964,896 signing bonus.Also read:

David made his NFL debut as well as his first professional start in the season-opener against the Carolina Panthers recording 6 tackles in a 16-10 victory. He enjoyed a splendid rookie season starting all 16 games and leading the Buccaneers with 139 tackles, and also making 5 pass deflections, 2 sacks, and an interception. David also finished with 20 tackles-for-loss- the most by a rookie since Kendrell Bell in 2001.

After a blistering couple of campaigns in the NFL, the Buccaneers, in August 2015, tied David down to a five-year $50 million contract extensions, with $25 million guaranteed, and made his first Pro Bowl appearance at the end of the season in January 2016.

In 2020, David led the Buccaneers into the playoffs and made his first Super Bowl appearance against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Buccaneers came out on top winning 31-9, with David recording 6 tackles in the game, earning his first Super Bowl ring in the process.

In the following year, 2021, he signed a 2-year extension, that was worth $25 million, of which $20 million were guaranteed.
