Bangladesh’s opening batsman Litton Das managed to score a half-century in just 21 balls in the team’s bid to chase India’s 184 in the T20I World Cup 2022. 

Earlier in the day while batting, India’s Virat Kohli surpassed Mahela Jayawardene to become the highest run-scorer in the history of T20 World Cups. 

This is the first time the two sides are facing off since the teams went up against each other in a thrilling encounter at the 2016 T20I World Cup. India won the match by 1 run.

Who is Litton Das?

Litton Das is a Bangladeshi cricketer who plays on the Bangladesh National Cricket Team and is the vice-captain of the Bangladesh National Test Cricket Team. He is a top-order right-handed opening batsman and also plays as the wicket keeper when the team is fielding. 

He first made his debut on the national team in 2015 and currently holds the record for the best individual score for Bangladesh in an ODI match. Das became the first batsmen of 2022 to make 1000 runs and the first wicket keeper to score 800 runs in the 2021-2023
World Test Championship.

Das was born in Dinajpur in the Rangpur division of Bangladesh. His full name is Litton Kumar Das. He was born on February 16, 1994. 

His cricket career began in 2012 when he played for Bangladesh’s Under-19 cricket team in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. In the National Cricket League of 2014-2015, he scored 5 centuries, finishing the season with 1,024 runs and a batting average of 85.33. 

He made his international debut in 2015 in a Test match against India, making his ODI debut that same year. He also made his T20 International debut against South Africa.

Flash forward to 2019, and he was selected to play on the Bangladesh team for that year’s World Cup. He scored 94 runs in a 189-run partnership with Shakib al Hassan against the West Indies. 

From 2020 till 2022, he played in several Test matches as well as ODI. Notably, he was one of the lead scorers during Bangaldesh’s tour of West Indies in 2021. In a 3-match ODI series against Afghanistan, he scored 223 runs in February 2022 including a century and a half century.
