Spain secured their biggest win in World Cup, as they defeated Costa Rica with a comfortable 7-0. Spain’s sheer dominance over their rival team, helped by two goals by Ferran Torres and strikes by five other players has sent a message to all the other rival teams playing this year. A lot of positives look forward to Luis Enrique, the current head coach of the Spanish national team.
Who is Luis Enrique?
Luis Enrique was born on May 8, 1970 Gijón, Spain to Nely Garcia and Luis Martinez. He is of Asturian Descent but holds Spanish citizenship.
He started his career with Sporting de Gijón, a Spanish local club. He was known as Luncho at the club, after Mexican forward Luis Flores.
Enrique spent the majority of his career playing for two rival Spanish Club, first he joined Real Madrid and played for them for five seasons, and later on went on to join the rival Camp Nou on a free transfer in 1996.
His eight years in Barcelona were super impressive, he eventually went on to become the team captain. He also scored several times against his former club in El Clásico.
Enrique represented Spain in three world cups and one European Championship.
Enrique began his career as a manager, when he took on the responsibility to manage Barcelona B in 2008. He moved on to Roma three years later.
For the 2013-2014 season, he went on to manage Celta Vigo before returning to Barcelona, where he achieved the feat of winning a treble in his first year and a double in his second.
Enrique was announced as Spain’s first head coach, succeeding Fernando Hierro, his former club teammate.
Enrique’s managerial eminence was proved once again as he won La Liga twice, first in 2014-15 and repeating the success in 2015-2016. He also won Copa del Rey during these two seasons as well as in 2016-2017.
Barcelona won the Supercopa in 2016, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup 2015. Enrique’s career reached its zenith as Barcelona won against Juventus, to secure the title in the Champions League in 2014-2015.
Enrique has a total of nine trophies under his belt, which makes his the most decorated manager in Football in the world. His first trophy as Spain’s manager was expected in 2021 in the National League, but unfortunately could not be secured because La Roja lost to France in the finals.
