Luuk de Jong is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as
a striker for La Liga club Sevilla and the Netherlands national team. He has
reportedly agreed to a transfer deadline day deal with FC Barcelona.

Before playing for Sevilla, De Jong played for DZC ’68, De
Graafschap, Twente, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Newcastle United and PSV. His
brother Siem de Jong is also a professional football player, currently playing
for SC Heerenveen.

Born on 27 August 1990 in Aigle, Switzerland, he belonged to
a family of professional volleyball players.  De Jong made his Eredivisie debut with VBV De
Graafschap in a match versus NAC Breda, coming on as a substitute. After
another match coming off the bench against SC Heerenveen, de Jong became a
starter.

De Jong signed with Twente in 2009. He played his first
minutes for Twente in the cup match against SC Joure where he came on as a
second-half substitute replacing Dario Vujičević. He provided two assists in
the 8–0 victory over SC Joure. He scored his first two goals for Twente in the
cup match against Capelle. He also made his Europa League debut with the same
club.

He then went on to play for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the
Bundesliga in 2012. In 2014, he was sent on a loan to Premier League side
Newcastle United but returned to his parent club in just 5 months after
flopping in England.

From there, he moved back to his native Netherlands, signing
with PSV in July 2014. He went on to win an Eredivisie title, the club’s first
since 2008, and then won the 2015 Johan Cruyff Shield. He stayed at the club
till 2019, when he joined La Liga side Sevilla. Here he won the 2020 Europa
League title and fans will always remember him for scoring in the semifinal
against European giants Manchester United.
