Smith was chosen by the Philadelphia Eagles, who had moved up two spots to take him, with the tenth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. After Ja’Marr Chase and Jaylen Waddle, he was selected as the third wide receiver overall in the draught.
Smith missed the draught despite having strong college stats because of doubts about his raw measurables and the fact that his frame was deemed too small to withstand playing in the NFL. On June 3, 2021, he agreed to a $20.1 million, four-year rookie deal.
Smith received the Heisman Trophy in addition to numerous other medals and trophies for his achievements at Alabama State.
He was only the fourth wide receiver overall to win the Heisman since Desmond Howard in 1991.
