Michael Carrick is an English Professional football coach and former player. He is currently working as an interim coach at Manchester United. He played as a midfielder for most of his career and as an emergency center-back.

Carrick is known for his 12-year-long professional career with Manchester United. He also captained the side for some seasons. His strength lied in his grounded passing.

Personal Life

Born on July 28, 1981, in Wallsend, England, Carrick started playing football at the age of five. He played five-a-side football, at his local club, Wallsend Boys Club. Football became more serious to him at the age of 12.

During his school years, Carrick played as a center-forward. He studied at Wallsend’s Western Middle School and Burnside Community High School until he finished his GCSE exams in 1997.

Michael Carrick married his long-term girlfriend Lisa Roughead on June 16, 2007. She is a Pilates instructor with a business degree. The couple has a daughter, Louise, and a son, Jacey. Carrick’s nickname is ‘Macca’ and his full name is ‘Michael Adrian Carrick’.

Professional Career

Carrick made his professional debut in 1999. He started his career with West Ham United, after two loan spells at Swindon Town and Birmingham City, where he established himself as one of the key players. He played 136 league matches for West ham and scored six goals. In 2004, Tottenham Hotspurs bought him from West Ham United. During his two years spell with the spurs, he played 64 league matches and scored two goals.

In 2006, Michael Carrick was signed by Manchester United. As a Manchester United regular, Carrick won the English premier league three years in a row in 2006-07, 2007-08, and 2008-09 seasons. He and his teammates won the UEFA Champions League 2007-08 as well.

In 2009-10, season Carrick and Manchester lost the finals to FC Barcelona by 2-0. Carrick and United won the league in 2010-11 and 2012-13 seasons.

In 2014-15, he played less than 20 games in a single league season for the first time since 2000. He played only 18 games in the entire league.

Carrick announced retirement from professional football in January 2018. He played his last season in 2017-18. The former captain and midfielder later joined José Mourinho’s technical staff.

As of 2021, he is the only English player alongside former teammate Wayne Rooney to win every domestic honor in the English game the Premier League title, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, League Cup, FA Community Shield, UEFA Europa League, and FIFA Club World Cup.
