Mitchell Trubisky is an American football quarterback and currently plies his trade in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He started his career in the NFL with the Chicago Bears when he was drafted by the bears in the 1st round of the 2017 NFL Draft as the 2nd overall pick, and joined the Steelers as a free agent in March 2022.

Who is Mitchell Trubisky?

Mitchell Trubisky was born on August 20, 1994 in Mentor, Ohio. He did his high schooling at Mentor High School there. In his high school career, he passed for 9,126 yards and 92 touchdowns and rushed for 1,559 career yards and 33 touchdowns. His performances saw him earn the Ohio Mr. Football Award in 2012. In August 2012, he committed to University of North Carolina to play his collegiate football for the North Carolina Tar Heels from 2013-16. 

Trubisky redshirted his 2013 freshman year, and played 10 games as a backup in 2014 as a redshirt freshman. In his sophomore year, 2015, he appeared in 9 games in which he completed 40-of-47 passes for 555 yards and six touchdowns and rushed 16 times for 101 yards and three touchdowns. It was in his junior year, 2016, that Trubisky finally took over as starting quarterback, and he started all 13 games that year recording an impressive 3,748 passing yards with 30 touchdowns and six interceptions. After a successful junior season, he declared for the 2017 NFL Draft, and was ranked amongst the top quarterbacks in the draft.

Trubisky became the highest selected quarterback in the draft after the Chicago Bears selected him as the 2nd overall pick in the first round. 

After initially being named backup quarterback in his rookie season, Trubisky was named starter in Week 5 after the starting quarterback was benched owing to some indifferent performances. He made his first professional start on October 9, 2017, against the Minnesota Vikings, and completed 12 of 25 passes for 128 yards, a touchdown and an interception in a 20-17 loss. He finished his rookie season with a passing yard total of 2193 yards- the most by a rookie in the history of the Bears. He also made 7 touchdown passes and 7 interceptions in 12 starts. He also ran 248 yards, which was the most by a Bears quarterback since 2003.

The following year, in 2018, he was officially declared a Pro Bowl participant for the first time after a prolific season in which he finished with a passing yard total of 3,223 yards, 24 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions, also rushing for 421 yards and three touchdowns. He also made his playoffs debut that season, claiming a few records in the process. His 26 of 43 passes for 303 yards set franchise postseason records yards and completions, while Trubisky also became the youngest Bears quarterback to throw a touchdown pass in the playoffs since Doug Flutie in 1986.

In the 2019 season, Trubisky recorded 3,138 passing yards, 17 passing touchdowns, and ten interceptions to go along with 48 carries for 193 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

2020 was the fourth and final year of Trubisky’s time with the Bears as the Bears traded in Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback Nick Foles, and declined Trubisky’s fifth year option. 

In March 2021, Trubisky signed with the Buffalo Bills on a one-year contract worth $2.5 million and he slotted in to be a backup for the Bills’ lead quarterback Josh Allen. The following year, in March 2022 Trubisky moved to the Pittsburgh Steelers on a two-year contract.
