The daredevil Mohammad Rizwan starred in Pakistan’s five-wicket win against India in the Super 4s of the Asia Cup. With Pakistan chasing 181, they began slowly. Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman’s dismissals put them in deeper trouble, but Rizwan, alongside the counter-attacking Mohammad Nawaz, pulled Pakistan back into the contest. As their partnership progressed, so did Rizwan’s strike rate. He eventually holed out to Suryakumar Yadav off Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s bowling, but his 71 (off 51 balls) was an invaluable contribution.

Who is Mohammad Rizwan?

Mohammad Rizwan, 30, is a wicketkeeper-batsman. Rizwan is a right-handed batsman who has scored many runs in both domestic and international cricket. He is an excellent wicketkeeper who excels behind the stumps and is known for spectacular catches.

Rizwan has played cricket for the Pakistan national team, Lahore Qalandars, Pakistan A, Pakistan Under-19s, Pakistan Under-23s, Peshawar Panthers, and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited.

In 2008, he made his First-Class debut for Peshawar, catching the attention of selectors with a string of impressive performances. Rizwan’s rise from the Peshawar College squad to the Pakistan national team at 22 is an inspiring journey.

Rizwan made his ODI and T20I debuts in 2015 and began his Test career in 2016. However, he was in and out of the national team during that time since Sarfraz Ahmed was the first-choice national wicketkeeper.

Rizwan’s brilliant 104-run knock in the first T20 match against South Africa in February 2021 made him the second Pakistani player to score a century in all three formats of cricket. Rizwan’s century, that included six boundaries and seven sixes, is particularly remarkable because it was the first to be seen in Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, which hosted the T20 series’ first match.

Rizwan’s runs this year include seven fifties and one century. He has struck 65 boundaries and 25 sixes this year. He is also the leading run-scorer across formats, having scored 1,189 runs so far this year.

Overall, the Peshawar-born batsman has scored 914 runs from 26 innings in Test cricket, at an average of 41.55, and 864 runs from 37 ODI innings, averaging 28.8. In T20Is, Rizwan has 1,065 runs from 32 innings at an average of 48.41.

He has struck one century and six fifties in Tests, two tons and four fifties in ODIs and has eight fifties apart from reaching three figures once in T20Is.
