Nitu Ghanghas is an Indian boxer who won gold in the women’s minimum weight category at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK. The 21-year-old is a two-time world youth champion in light featherweight. 

Ghanghas was born on October 19, 2000 in the Dhanana Village of Bhiwani district in Haryana. She travelled 20 kilometres by bus with her father and fellow boxer Sakshi Choudhary to the Bhiwani Boxing Club in order to practise with coach Jagdish Singh.  The boxer, who began her career in 2012, has mostly competed in the 48 kg division. She competed in regional events in 2012, but it took her five years to get her first medal. In Guwahati in the AIBA tournament, she took home her first medal.

She went on to win the Asian Youth Boxing Championship Gold Medal in 2018. Due to injury, Ghanghas did not compete for two years. The boxer made her comeback in 2022.

Nitu Ghanghas’ father Jai Bhawani Singh is a bill messenger at Haryana Vidha Sabha House and mother Mukesh Devi is a homemaker. She has a younger brother named Akshit Ghanghas.

Ghanghas will attend a national camp in Rohtak, which is being held to prepare the Indian team for the AIBA Youth Women’s and Men’s World Boxing Championships (August).

The CWG 2022 gold medal winner is a BA first-year student at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Chandigarh.
