The ICC T20I World Cup 2022 starting on October 16 will be a bonanza for cricket fans around the world. The competition will be played over 45 T20Is between October 16th and November 13th, with the final to be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Odeon Smith is in the West Indian squad as a bowling all-rounder.

Who is Odean Smith?

Odeon Fabian Smith is a West Indian cricketer who was born on November 1, 1996 and brought up in St Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica. He is the only child of the family. Smith comes from a place where there weren’t prominent cricket academies or special playgrounds. His family’s financial condition was not good so it was hard to support Odean’s passion for cricket.

Through practice and sheer hard work, Odeon learned cricket and used to play on a piece of empty land near his locality with his friends. Smith made his List A debut on January 16, 2015, in the 2014–2015 Regional Super50 tournament. He was called up to the West Indies Squad for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2016. 

Smith made his way in the West Indies team for their Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Pakistan in March 2018. He had his T20I debut for the West Indies against Pakistan on April 2, 2018.

A right-arm fast-medium bowler and an aggressive right-handed batsman, Smith excels in the T20 format and came into the limelight courtesy of being bought by Punjab Kings and some of his performances in the IPL 2022 season. Till date, he has bagged 55 wickets in the T20 format.

He was picked to the West Indies ODI team for their series against Ireland in December 2021. Odeon Smith made his ODI debut for the West Indies against Ireland on January 8, 2022.

He performed impressively in the ODI series vs India in 2022, where he replaced skipper Kieron Pollard.
