In June of the previous year, Thompson made his initial commitment to Alabama. His ambitions, like those of several other prospective students in Auburn’s Class of 2024, were derailed when Bryan Harsin, Auburn’s former head coach, was fired. Thompson’s decision to reevaluate his pledge and ultimately go to Auburn is likely impacted by the hiring of Hugh Freeze as the new head coach and the changes he made to the coaching staff.
Before Hugh Freeze became Auburn’s next head coach, Thompson mentioned that he hadn’t spoken with the school. But Marcus Davis, the new wide receivers coach at Auburn, was already a friend of Thompson’s. When Thompson accepted a scholarship offer from Georgia Southern, Davis was the wide receivers coach there.

The Auburn Tigers were successful in securing Thompson’s commitment to their football program during the past weekend through these conversations and visits.
