According to reports, Phil Baroni, a former UFC fighter, was arrested in Mexico after being accused of killing his girlfriend. According to Tribuna De La Bahia, the two were arguing inside a hotel in San Pancho at the time of the alleged incident.

The report claimed: “Baroni beat his girlfriend, a Mexico City native, to death in San Pancho, Nayarit, México. He alleges he threw her inside the shower with force after she told him she had cheated where she hit her head and passed away minutes later.”

Who is Phil Baroni?

Philip George Baroni was born on April 16, 1976, in Massapequa Park in Long Island, New York. He is a retired American mixed martial artist, professional wrestler and former kickboxer.

Baroni attended Massapequa High School where he was on the wrestling team. As a wrestler at Nassau Community College, Baroni won two All-American titles and finished fifth and second in the country. But he was expelled in the latter half of his senior year. After that, he attended Hofstra University and then, with scholarship, transferred to Central Michigan University to pursue a double degree in biology and psychology.

Baroni debuted in the UFC in only his second professional fight, at UFC 30 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He defeated Curtis Stout, a fellow striking expert, in the match by unanimous decision. 

Before landing his second fight with the UFC at UFC 34 against Matt Lindland, Baroni was 3-0 and undefeated. He lost the fight by decision.

Baroni joined Hammer House and bounced back with several knockout wins over Ikuhisa Minowa, Ryo Chonan, and Yuki Kondo in Japan’s PRIDE Fighting Championships banner. 

Baroni lost against Ikuhisa Minowa, with whom he had grown competitive, by unanimous decision on June 4, 2006, in the Bushido Welterweight Grand Prix 183 lb (83 kg) category contest that had taken place in 2005.

Baroni made a comeback in late 2009 to compete in the UFC once more. Hee had signed a multi-fight contract.  Amir Sadollah, the victor of TUF 7, was his opponent in his comeback fight at UFC 106 on November 21, 2009.  Baroni was defeated by Sadollah in a unanimous decision.

Baroni appeared in several independent films, credited as “Man in Club” and “Weightlifter 2.”
