Priyanka Goswami won a silver medal in the women’s 10,000m race walk, giving India its 27th medal of the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Saturday.

Goswami set a personal best by running the marathon in 49 minutes and 38 seconds.

Priyanka Goswami was born on March 10th 1996 in Uttar Pradesh. She is a 20-kilometre race walk competitor. She represented India at the Olympics in Tokyo, finishing 17th.

Goswami began her journey in 2011. She was a regular competitor at both the state and national levels. She used to be a gymnast before pursuing a career in race walking. 

She realised after she returned that she has the stamina to compete in track events. She then decided to concentrate on race walking and has never looked back according to sportskeeda.

She won the Indian Race Walking Championships in New Delhi in 1:37:58.

With a time of 1:31:36, Goswami won silver at the Indian Race Walking Championships in 2020. She won the gold medal at the 8th National and International Race Walking Championships in 2021, setting a national record of 1:28:45, and qualified for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Goswami had represented India at the Tokyo Olympics 2022, finishing 17th, and had won the Indian Racewalking Championship in the 20 km race earlier in 2021, setting a new Indian record of 1:28.45.

She is an operating supervisor for Indian Railways.

Goswami became the first Indian woman to win a medal in racewalking. She is also only the second racewalker to win a medal at the CWG. Harminder Singh had previously won a bronze medal in the 20m racewalk at the 2019 Games.
