Chris Beard, the most recent head coach of the University of Texas men’s basketball team, was fired from the job on Thursday after an allegation of domestic abuse by his fiance Randi Trew led to his detention early last month.
Immediately after his arrest, Texas suspended Beard “until further notice” and without pay. He was charged with assaulting Trew but was released later an after posting a $10,000 bond. However, since the arrest, Texas has refused to keep him as the second-year head coach.

According to the Daily Mail, an internal investigation into the allegation against Beard is underway and further action in the case will be taken based on that.
Who is Randi Trew?
Randi Trew is a volleyball coach, a former player, entrepreneur, and Chris Bear’s fiance. She was born in August 1984 and spent most of her career as a volleyball player at University of Texas. After that, she went and played for Wayland Baptist University before ending her playing career around 2006.

During her time at Wayland, which was between 2004 to 2006, she was awarded the Sooner Athletic Conference. She was also named the team’s most valuable player twice, in her first year in 2004 and then again in 2006.
After retiring as a volleyball player, she started her career as a volleyball coach. Her most recent role as a volleyball coach was with Frenship High School in Texas but she reportedly resigned in December 2020. According to the Associated Press,
