Richard Sherman took shots at Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson at halftime after the latter had a forgettable performance against the Indianapolis Colts. Sherman was present at the Empower Field at Mile High in Denver and chanted ‘Broncos Nation, Let’s Score’, a dig at Wilson’s chant of ‘Broncos Nation, Let’s Ride’ that the player used in his introductory press conference. The two were seen having pre-game conversations.

Who is Richard Sherman?

Richard Sherman is an NFL cornerback who is currently a free agent. He has played 11 seasons in the league with his last one being in 2021. The player was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Sherman has been most famous for being a part of ‘The Legion of Boom’, the main defensive unit of the Seahawks from 2011-2019 as the team won the 2013 Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos. 

The cornerback was born on March 30, 1988 in Compton city of California. He committed to play for Stanford University in college and recorded 113 combined tackles along with 6 interceptions during his five-year tenure from 2006-2010.

NFL Career: –

Sherman was the 25th cornerback drafted in 2011 and signed a four-year, $2.22 million contract with the Seahawks, which included a $182,424 signing bonus. In the team’s season-opening 33-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, he made his professional regular season debut. In Week 4, Sherman recorded his first career solo tackle on wide receiver Eric Weems’ 13-yard punt return as the Seahawks fell 30-28 to the Atlanta Falcons. Sherman had 55 combined tackles (47 solo), 14 pass deflections, four interceptions, and a forced fumble in 16 games and ten starts as a rookie in 2011.

In his second season, he started all 16 games and had 64 combined tackles (53 solo), a career-high 24 pass deflections, eight interceptions, a touchdown, and a sack. In 2013, he was named to the Associated Press NFL All-Pro First Team for the second time. Sherman made three combined tackles and a pass deflection as the Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII.

In 2014, the Seattle Seahawks signed Sherman to a four-year, $56 million contract extension with $40 million guaranteed and an $11 million signing bonus, making him the highest-paid cornerback in league history.

After seven seasons with the team, he was released, following which he signed with the San Francisco 49ers and played with the team for three years. In 2021, he was picked by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a $2.25 million one-year contract. Playing in just five games with three starts, he finished the season with 11 tackles, a pass deflection, and one interception.
