Ross Taylor played his last innings in New Zealand colours against the Netherlands in the third ODI on Monday. The 38-year-old scored 14 runs in 16 balls with the help of a six. He was caught and bowled by Logan van Beek. 

The game, Taylor’s 450th, saw the right-hander end his 16-year international career. He played his last Test against South Africa this year but decided to make this match on his home ground at Seddon Park his final bow.

His children, MacKenzie, Jonty and Adelaide, stood beside him during the national anthems and he went through an honor guard formed by Netherlands players.

Who is Ross Taylor?

A right-handed batsman from New Zealand’s Lower Hutt, Ross Taylor is fondly addressed as the senior statesman of the Blackcaps dressing room.

He made his international debut in 2006. Taylor has since then been New Zealand’s mainstay across formats, having led the team between 2010 and 2012. During his 13-Test captaincy stint, New Zealand recorded rare wins in Australia and Sri Lanka.

He announced his white-ball arrival in style by scoring a century (128) against Sri Lanka at Napier in 2006. He followed that with a better than run a ball 84 in his first ODI outside New Zealand, at Hobart against Australia in January 2007.

Taylor made his Test debut in 2007-08 but was soon dropped from the squad due to some poor performances. However, he madde a comeback against England with his maiden century, 120, at Hamilton. He followed it up 154 at Old Trafford.

One of his finest innings is when he scored an unbeaten 181 on one leg against England. During the 2019 World Cup semi-final clash against India, he scored an important half-century as well.

Taylor has played 112 Tests and racked up 7,683 runs, including 19 centuries. His highest score is 290.

In ODIs, he has played 236 matches and scored 8,593 runs. He also scored 1,909 runs in 102 Twenty20 internationals.
