Argentine footballer Sergio Aguero has completed his move to Spanish giants FC Barcelona, who on Monday announced his arrival from Manchester City on a free transfer. He signed a contract for two years with a buyout clause set at €100m.

Aguero began his professional career with Argentine club Indipendente. On July 5, 2003, he became the youngest player to play in the Argentine Primera Division, breaking the record previously set by Diego Maradona in 1976.

After three years with the Avallenada-based club, Aguero earned a move to Atletico Madrid, where he scored 100 goals in 230 appearances over the next five years. His goal-scoring exploits led to a €40 million move to Manchester City, where he became a legend over the course of a trophy-laden ten-year spell. He has scored 260 goals for Manchester City in 389 appearances, helping them to five Premier League, six League Cups and an FA Cup title.

Aguero is his country’s third-highest all-time top goalscorer, scoring 41 goals in 97 caps. He has represented Argentina at three FIFA World Cups and four Copa Americas.

At age 18, Aguero made his senior debut for Argentina in a friendly with Brazil, played at Emirates Stadium, England, on September 3, 2006, and was chosen for the 2010 FIFA World Cup squad, and made his FIFA World Cup debut in Argentina’s second group match against South Korea on June 12, 2010.

Aguero was married to Gianinna Maradona, the youngest daughter of late Argentine footballer Diego Maradona. Aguero and Gianinna separated in 2012 after four years together. Aguero shares a close friendship with Lionel Messi, his regular roommate, during outings for the national team since 2005. He described Messi as being “like a brother” in his 2014 autobiography, ‘Born to Rise,’ which contains a foreword written by Messi.
