Suryakumar Yadav, nicknamed SKY, scored his 12th IPL half-century against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday. The 30-year-old Mumbai Indians batsman played a brisk knock of 56 off 36 balls.

Last month, the batsman from Maharashtra got his maiden national team call-up in the T20I series against England. Yadav made a dream start to his international career scoring 57 off 31 balls and a 17-ball 32 in the fourth and fifth T20Is against England in the recently-concluded series.

Cricket experts were disappointed after Yadav was not selected for the Australia tour despite a stellar Indian Premier League performance last year that saw him score 480 runs, helping MI win their fifth title.

Yadav made his first-class debut in the 2010-11 Ranji season against Delhi. It was a dream debut for him as he was the only player to score a fifty in Mumbai’s first innings. He has since then, become a regular for the team in every season.

Although he was picked up by MI for the 2011 IPL season, he played very few matches for them. He was then selected by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2013 and featured in every match for the franchise during their 2014’s winning campaign.

He was brought back by MI in 2018 and finished the season as the highest run-score for the franchise, scoring 512 runs. He told Sports Today, “I think their (Mumbai Indians) support has been immense. I still remember when I came back to MI from KKR in 2018… my role at KKR was completely different, I used to bat lower down the order and play the finisher’s role.”
