Tyler Smith is an American football offensive lineman who shall play for the Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted in the first round of the NFL draft by the Cowboys as the 24th overall pick.

Smith was born on April 3rd, 2001 in Fort Worth, Texas where he did his schooling at North Crowley High School. In his senior year, Smith became an all-state selection and was rated a 3-star recruit. He had offers from Houston, Navy, and New Mexico, and even initially committed to Abilene Christian, before de-committing and signing up with Tulsa to play for the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes instead.

Smith redshirted in 2019- his freshman year at Tulsa, to maintain an extra year of eligibility, but still ended up playing in the final four games of the season, starting 2. In 2020, Smith started all 9 games for the Hurricanes in a Covid-shortened season at left tackle and was named in the first-team all-American Athletic Conference (AAC). He also found a place on the 2020 All-Freshman Team. In the 2021 season, after missing the first game through suspension for his part in a brawl during the previous season’s Armed Forces Bowl, he went on to start the remaining 12 games on the blindside and received second-team All-League accolades.

Smith also participated in the NFL Combine before registering for the 2022 NFL Draft. The NFL Combine is a week-long event that happens every February in Indianapolis where college football players perform a variety of physical and mental tests to catch the eye of NFL coaches, scouts, and general managers in the hopes of raising their chances for a successful draft. Tyler Smith did the business and was picked up by the Dallas Cowboys promptly.

Smith is described as big, wide, and nasty possessing impressive violence and power at the point of attack. He possesses a strong grip in his heavy and powerful hands but is also a nimble mover with quick feet that allow him to redirect and recover sharply. He can, however, be erratic and does lack the discipline needed to excel currently- often turning blocks into a wrestling match. He has only just turned 21 in April though, and was one of the youngest members of the draft, so this is something that he will be hoping to work on as he matures, so he can fulfill his potential in the NFL.
