Paris Saint-Germain are set to confirm the signing of Vitinha from Porto in the coming hours (or days), with the highly rated Portuguese midfielder expected to add a certain quality and calmness in the Parisian side’s midfield.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Porto have agreed to a €40 million deal for the midfielder, and paperwork is being prepared to complete the deal at the earliest.

The signing is the first under new sporting director Luis Campos, who was appointed after the club sacked Leonardo Araújo.

While Vitinha may not be a household name, he had quite the season with Primeira Liga winners Porto in 2021/22.

A central midfielder capable of playing as a deep-lying defensive pivot, Vitinha can also play up front, giving him considerable versatility.

Although the 22-year-old had a disappointing loan spell with Wolves in the Premier League, he broke into the Porto first team in 2021/22 season, becoming a crucial player for the Portuguese domestic champions, with only three other players playing more minutes than him in last season’s campaign.

Known for his ability on the ball, Vitinha boasts one of the highest dribble success rates in Europe, and is also a passer of some capability.

In his 30 games for Porto last season, Vitinha attempted 622 final third passes, managing to complete 522 of them, an impressive completion rate of 83%.

Vitinha also won the player of the month award in the Primeira Liga back to back in December and January, for dictating play, scoring twice, and grabbing three assists.

Having missed out on Aurélien Tchouaméni, who snubbed the Parisian club to join Real Madrid, PSG will be hoping that Vitinha steps up and becomes the player he promises to be.
