Vladimir Guerrero Jr. entered the Major League Baseball history books when the Dominican-Canadian first baseman hit his 47th home run on Saturday. Thanks to his two-run homer in the first inning, the Toronto Blue Jays thumped the Baltimore Orioles 10-1 in a must-win game.

With the hit, Guerrero is now tied for the MLB record of most homers by a player 22 years or younger.

Guerrero had a .310/.400/.592 (167 OPS+) line entering Saturday. In runs, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, OPS+, total bases, and runs scored, he led the AL. He has a chance to win the batting title, and he is presently only one home run behind Salvador Perez in the home run race.

Son of MLB Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero, and the nephew of former baseball player Wilton Guerrero, Guerrero Jr. was born in Montreal on March 16, 1999.

Guerrero was the top foreign free agent of 2015, according to Baseball America[6], and he was ranked fourth by MLB.com. At the age of 16, he signed with Toronto at $3.9 million on July 2, 2015. To begin the 2016 minor league season, Guerrero was assigned to an extended spring training camp.

Guerrero made his debut in professional baseball on June 23 with the Rookie Advanced Bluefield Blue Jays. In a 4–2 defeat to the Bristol Pirates on June 24, Guerrero blasted his first professional home run, a two-run drive.

After months of speculation, the Blue Jays announced on April 24, 2019 that Guerrero would be brought up from Triple-A Buffalo on April 26.

Prior to getting called up, Guerrero was already regarded as the best prospect in all of professional baseball, hitting .367/.424/.700 with three home runs and eight RBIs in an eight-game stay with Buffalo in 2019.

He was hitless in his first three at-bats against the Oakland Athletics before blasting a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning and pinch-running.

On May 11, Guerrero had his first multi-hit game and reached base safely four times.

In 2019, Guerrero hit.272/.339/.433 in 464 at-bats, with 15 home runs and 69 RBI. Of all the balls hit by big-league hitters in 2019, he had the second-highest exit velocity (118.9 mph).

However, a coronavirus-ravaged season in 2020, somewhat stunted his meteoric rise although he played in all 60 games. With nine home runs and 33 RBIs, Guerrero had a batting average of 262.

In the 2021 season, Guerrero rose to the occasion as he led the Toronto side from the front. On July 1, he was named the starting first baseman for the American League in the All-Star Game.

He blasted the 200th home run in All-Star Game’s history, becoming the third father-son duo to hit home runs in All-Star Games, and was voted the game’s Most Valuable Player.
